Auto insurance customers should remain wary of vehicle theftPosted On Thu, September 3, 2009
Recent government statistics have shown that vehicle theft rates have been falling for several years now, benefiting auto insurance customers in the process.
However, theft is still all too common of a problem and some drivers are learning the hard way that some vehicles are more popular among thieves than others.
For example, a recent report by the National Insurance Crime Bureau said that of the 1 million vehicles stolen each year, the 1994 Honda Accord is the most popular, with 55,000 of them stolen last year alone.
The 1995 Honda Civic happened to be second on the list, followed by the 1989 Toyota Camry and the 1997 Ford F-150 pickup.
The report noted that many of these models are popular with thieves because their parts are often more valuable than the vehicles themselves. Older models are also said to be somewhat easier to steal than newer models, which can feature more sophisticated anti-theft features.
Overall, consumers are feeling the benefit of lower theft rates in their auto insurance premiums, but this doesn't mean they can let their guard down.
