Auto collisions with deer decline 7 percentPosted On Wed, October 5, 2011
Automobile accidents involving deer have declined 7 percent over the past year, which is the third straight year that the figure has dropped, according to a report from auto insurance firm State Farm.
Vermont, Michigan, West Virginia and Connecticut all had sizable declines in these types of accidents, with incidents dropping 24 to 22 percent. Pennsylvania still had the top spot regarding collisions, with 101,299, only second to Michigan's 78,304.
"State Farm has a long history of supporting auto safety," said Laurette Stiles, vice president of Strategic Resources for State Farm. "While we can’t put our finger directly on what's causing a decline in deer-vehicle collisions, we’d like to think media attention to our annual report on this subject has had at least a little bit to do with it."
Consumers who live in areas that have a sizable deer population may want to go out of their way to ensure their coverage has sufficient insurance against an accident involving one of these animals. If not, it could be a good idea to compare cheap insurance quotes in order to find the best deal.
