April is National Home Inspection MonthPosted On Wed, March 30, 2011
Warmer temperatures traditionally signal April's arrival, but so does an increased presence of home inspectors.
That's because April is National Home Inspection Month and the American Society of Home Inspectors says it's a great time to have one's property examined for any potential safety hazards.
"Owning a home remains one of the most significant financial investments most people will make in their lifetime," said Kurt Salomon, president of the ASHI. "Periodic inspections conducted by a qualified professional are one of the best ways to protect that investment."
ASHI says a certified home inspector should meticulously examine virtually every component of a house, including the roof, walls, ceiling, floors, doors and foundation.
A recent survey conducted by the group found that 88 percent of respondents thought the home inspection process was a crucial part of homeownership.
ASHI says a home inspection should be conducted once every three to five years.
Once it's completed, homeowners should inform their home insurance agent about the results, as a policy may have to be adjusted based on what the inspector found.
