AARP's user's guide to healthcare reformPosted On Tue, April 27, 2010
On Friday the American Association of Retired Persons released its user's guide to healthcare reform.
The guide is meant to teach AARP members about the changes associated with the new healthcare law and how it will directly affect them once it has been implemented. Included in the guide will be basic information about the changes being made to employer insurance, Medicare, small businesses, and taxes.
Changes to Medicare will affect its premiums and a variety of specific types of benefits coverage. There are more than 160 million Americans who receive healthcare from their employer's insurance provider, and the new law will change those options, pricing, protections, and incentives.
The AARP's guide will also explain how coverage will be widened for those who once were unable to receive insurance due to their age or a pre-existing medical condition. Low-income families can also find out how the law will affect their bottom line.
The healthcare reform guide will also explain some lesser-known changes - like the tanning salon tax, who will be required to have health coverage, and how insurance exchanges will be handled.
