AARP upset with possible aid budget cutsPosted On Wed, October 12, 2011
The American Association of Retired Persons recently announced that several of its members will be heading to Capitol Hill to plead with government leaders about preventing possible cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate may be cutting parts of both programs as a cost-saving measure. Seniors would be affected by having to pay higher healthcare costs, receiving reduced access to physicians and possibly lowering the amount of money in benefit checks.
"Seniors have spent their lives working for their Medicare and Social Security benefits and they should not be just another line-item in the budget," said David Mitchell, AARP Arizona state director. "Congress instead should be looking at closing tax loopholes and cutting waste as ways to cut our federal budget."
While both Medicare and Social Security are both very important, it may not be a wise plan to solely depend on them. Instead, it could be a good plan to investigate other options, such as annuity insurance rates, which could be the perfect item to help properly prepare for retirement and guarantee a steady income.
