AAA recognizes PA driving legislationPosted On Fri, September 30, 2011
A recent announcement from the Pennsylvania AAA Federation, a conglomerate of AAA organizations in the Keystone state, congratulated the local legislature for tightening driving laws for young people.
The House Bill 9 lowers the amount of people a teen driver can have in their car to one other person. This applies to any drivers under the age of 18 for their first six months of driving. In addition, training for potential drivers increased to 65 hours from an original 50 hours, with 10 of those hours in bad weather and night driving.
"This age group's fatality rate is four times that of adults," said Ted Leonard, executive director of the Federation. "Inexperienced young drivers are prone to peer pressure, inclined to take risks, are distracted by young passengers and tempted to multi-task behind the wheel."
Immediate family members are excluded from the law, as drivers are allowed to have any number of them on board.
Parents may want to ensure that their children are properly covered when they embark on a trip. Checking out auto insurance rates online could get them not only a package with good coverage, but one that won't strain their wallets, as well.
