Vehicle dependability increases for 2009 models, says J.D. Power

Posted On Fri, February 17, 2012

J.D. Power and Associates recently released a study showing that vehicles from the 2009 model year may be keeping their value.

The study, "2012 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study," showed the overall vehicle dependability average was 132 problems per 100 vehicles. This was a 13 percent improvement from 2011, which was 151 per 100 vehicles. Lexus witnessed the fewest issues, with 86 per 100 vehicles, while Chrysler experienced the worst - 192 per 100.

"Building vehicles with high levels of dependability is obviously a necessary element in reshaping consumer perceptions," said David Sargent, vice president of global automotive at J.D. Power and Associates. "Negative quality perceptions are notoriously difficult to change, and it takes considerable time, but effectively communicating improvements in dependability may reduce concerns, and by extension, help new-vehicle sales."

Consumers who want to purchase a vehicle, but are not confident if they can afford it, may want to try to save money in the insurance realm. By comparing auto insurance quotes, consumers may be able to find a price and plan that fits their needs.
