Many shoppers using online insurance resources

Posted On Wed, May 30, 2012

J.D. Power and Associates released new findings which showed that not only do many Americans utilize online avenues for their insurance shopping, but that these same shoppers are fickle about their options.

In total, 34 percent of consumers who shop for auto insurance would rather purchase a policy online, according to the 2012 Insurance Website Evaluation Study. In addition, 63 percent of those polled noted they are likely to choose a plan from an insurer after examining that company's website. Only 14 percent said they would still work with that insurer if they didn't like their website. Half of those satisfied shoppers polled noted they would encourage friends and relatives to use the company, but only 2 percent of shoppers who were unhappy reported the same thing.

"The 2012 Insurance Shopping Study shows that nearly three-fourths of all shoppers visit at least one insurer's website, often as the first point of contact with the insurance company," said Jeremy Bowler, senior director of the insurance practice at J.D. Power and Associates. "Insurers have a fantastic opportunity to gain shoppers, and their referrals, by providing a website that is easy to use, has a professional and engaging appearance, and is a great resource for the shopping process."

Those consumers who want an insurance policy may benefit from seeking out multiple insurance quotes. By comparing these options, they may be better able to find low insurance rates, and get the best plan for their situation. Whether it is for home, auto, health or other types of insurance needs, a person will likely have more success with their search if they look for multiple policies. This way, it can be easier to determine what they need and what they can get for the price.
