Many New Yorkers want more anti-tobacco funding

Posted On Thu, March 8, 2012

A poll compiled by the American Heart Association, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and other healthcare groups noted that the vast majority of New York residents prefer the Empire State bringing back anti-smoking programs.

More than seven in 10 consumers think that some of the state's tobacco tax should go toward programs that deter people from smoking, the poll showed. Another two-thirds noted that they do not support the state's recent cuts to programs that prevent tobacco use.

"We can spend a little now or a lot later," said Julianne Hart, New York State government relations director for the American Heart Association. "Even in these difficult budget times, voters recognize that tobacco prevention is a smart investment for New York that protects kids, saves lives and saves money by reducing tobacco-related health care costs."

Those consumers who lead healthy lives but don't receive extra benefits from their employer's health insurance plan may want to look for other options. There could be a plethora of private plans with perks for those who live healthy. Comparing health insurance quotes may aid in a person's search.
