Hurricane season could be muted for Atlantic states, El Nino possible

Posted On Fri, June 8, 2012

In total, there should be 13 storms given names in the Atlantic during the 2012 hurricane season, the report explained. This would include two storms which have already occurred, as well as another 11 for the remainder of the season. In all, five should become hurricanes. Of those, two will be between Category 3 and Category 5.

"We have increased our numbers slightly from our early April forecast, due largely to our uncertainty as to whether an El Nino will develop later this summer as well as somewhat marginal Atlantic basin conditions," said Phil Klotzbach, lead author of the forecasts.

Even with a projected lighter storm season, it is important to note that storms can still be severe. If a person doesn't have a sufficient home insurance policy, they may not be fully protected. This is why grabbing a policy with low home insurance rates could help ensure a family is covered without breaking the bank.
