Healthcare reform aided many in receiving coverage, says HHS

Posted On Mon, March 19, 2012

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently noted that the Affordable Care Act has helped more than 1 million minorities achieve health insurance.

The organization's National Health Interview Survey and the Current Population Survey found that due to the law, more than 730,000 Latinos, along with 410,000 African Americans, 97,000 Asian Americans and close to 30,000 American Indian/Alaska Natives now have some type of health insurance coverage.

"As a result of the Affordable Care Act, we are making strides in giving every American regardless of race or ethnicity a fair shot at quality, affordable health coverage," said Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of HHS. "Because of the law, more and more young adults can breathe a little easier knowing they have health coverage."

The law allows consumers under the age of 27 to stay on their parents' healthcare plans, the report added.

Consumers who still don't have a health insurance plan may want to check online to see if they can find a good deal. By comparing health insurance quotes, a person may find exactly what they need.
