Health insurance benefits can be confusing for employees. With many new health care rules being implemented, there could be a number of changes being made to a company's benefits. It's important for consumers to take time to educate themselves on plan and offerings and details.

With fall being open enrollment period for many employers, United Healthcare is taking the opportunity to remind consumers to make sure they are selecting coverage plans that will best meet their needs.

"Open enrollment is a great time for consumers to review their benefits in detail and ask questions," says United Healthcare chief growth officer Austin Pittman. "We encourage people to make an effort to fully understand their options so that they can make better health decisions, which can lead to better health and cost savings."

The health insurance provider encourages consumers to check if their doctor is considered in-network for their plan. Many health insurance companies will require plan holders to pay more out-of-pocket expenses to receive care from out-of-network physicians. People can also save on healthcare expenses by utilizing health savings accounts and participating in wellness programs.
