The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases recently partnered with the Emily Post Institute to compile a survey promoting influenza prevention awareness.

More than 60 percent of consumers noted they had flu-like symptoms in the past few years, but did not change their activities, according to the survey. However, more than eight in 10 Americans agreed that it is important to avoid social situations when ill.

"Most of us try our best to be considerate and do the right thing," said Anna Post, great-great-granddaughter of Emily Post and co-author of the 18th edition of the Emily Post’s Etiquette book. "While people recognize that the flu virus spreads easily, they admit to tossing proper etiquette aside when they have the flu."

Consumers who have not had a flu shot and think they are at risk of getting sick may benefit from receiving one. In addition, it may be important to check on health insurance quotes, as comparing these items to a current plan could help a person have the coverage they need if they are under the weather.
