What Medicare Part A Does NOT Cover

  • Hospital deductible (per illness), $912 in 2005
  • Hospital coinsurance payments, $228 to $456 per day in 2005 ($228 for days 61 to 90 and $456 for up to 150 days)
  • Hospital needs beyond 150 days
  • Nursing services beyond 100 days (per illness)
  • Nursing services coinsurance payments, $114 per day in 2005 (for days 21 to 100)
  • Coverage is extremely restricted for home health nursing and aide services in general

What Medicare Part B Does NOT Cover

  • Deductible
  • 20% coinsurance payment
  • Bills that are greater than the Medicare approved amount
  • Prescription medication coverage is limited to extreme situations and in general is not covered.

Medicare is changing

The Medicare system is quickly changing and the information here is intended for people who are already 65 years of age. Younger people should note that Medicare will probably change drastically before they are eligible for the coverage.
