Hawaii Health Insurance Regulations
Under state regulations Hawaii health insurance companies must guarantee renewability for individuals looking to renew existing Hawaii health insurance plans. As long as the individual has paid all premiums on time and has not provided false information, the Hawaii health insurance company cannot deny the individual to right to renew the policy.
Under Hawaii health insurance laws newborns and adopted children are covered under the parent’s individual health insurance policy for a minimum of 31 days if the policy already provides dependent coverage. Hawaii health insurance policies must be adjusted after this time.
Hawaii health insurance companies can include pre-existing condition exclusion periods which means and individual may not be covered for certain medical conditions that existed prior to the beginning of a new Hawaii medical insurance plan. The pre-existing exclusion period denies the individual a right to claim insurance on the condition for a period of time decided upon by the Hawaii health insurance company. There are some Hawaii health insurance companies that do not apply the pre-existing exclusion periods.
Hawaii health insurance companies cannot deny continued coverage based on the health of an individual. New Hawaii medical insurance policies, however, can be denied based on the health of an individual and may determine eligibility based on the risk involved in insuring the individual. No individual can be denied for Hawaii health insurance if the insurance is provided through an employer. Some of the larger Hawaii medical insurance providers offer individual health insurance policies to everyone who applies. Hawaii health insurance rates vary depending upon the individual and the age and health of that individual.
