Florida Health Insurance Regulations
All Florida health insurance is guaranteed renewable which means that as long as an individual has paid all premiums on time and has not provided the Florida health insurance company with any false information, the individual cannot be denied the ability to renew an existing policy.
Florida health insurance companies can impose a pre-existing condition exclusion period to any individual who has been diagnosed or treated for a medical condition within a two year period prior to the beginning of the requested Florida medical insurance plan. This exclusion period means that the Florida health insurance company will not provide coverage for the existing condition during that period. The exclusion period may be permanent and is dependant upon the Florida medical insurance company.
Existing coverage can be used to credit a pre-existing exclusion period required by the new Florida health insurance policy provided there was no lapse in coverage. Florida health insurance companies can, however, deny insurance to any individual. Florida laws provide protection for individuals who fall under group or employer health insurance plans as they cannot be denied coverage for Florida health insurance.
Florida health insurance rates can also vary dependant upon the individual’s age and health. Temporary health care coverage is available through many Florida health insurance companies to provide coverage between jobs or plan. Such policy applications must be completed and returned within 63 days of the end of the last health insurance policy.
Alternative Florida Health Insurance Options
The state of Florida provides options for individuals who may be uninsurable or cannot afford to purchase individual Florida health insurance. These plans include:
- Florida Medicaid is available for those individuals who meet the income and eligibility criteria.
- Florida KidCare is the Florida health insurance for children under 19 years of age whose families do not qualify for Medicaid and cannot otherwise afford Florida health insurance.
