To date, Anthem, Inc. has purchased Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies in 14 states. In eleven of those states, the company operates under the name Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. This is true of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Colorado. Colorado became part of Anthem, Inc. in 2001. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Colorado is a publicly traded for-profit company.
