Time insurance, formally known as Fortis Insurance, is a member company of Assurant Health and has been providing services to customers since 1892. Time Insurance changed names from Fortis in September of 2005 and is an underwriter for Assurant Health serving more than one million people.

As a partner with Assurant Health, Time Insurance provides the following types of health insurance plans:

• Individual and family
• Small Employer

Types of Plans

Time insurance provides choices of health insurance plans based on deductible, copay, and provider choice either through the Time insurance network of providers or the customer’s choice. Time insurance also provides the option of a Health Savings Account (HSA). Time health insurance offers three types of plans:

• Network plans: Customers choose providers within the Time Insurance network that offer services at negotiated rates. These lower rates result in lower deductibles, copayments, and premiums for the customer.
• Traditional plans: Customers choose their own medical providers (this works best if the customer lives outside the Time Insurance provider network)
• Health Savings Account (HSA) plans: The funds put into an HSA by the customer are pre-tax and can roll over from year to year. This tax-sheltered system helps cover bills that exceed the health plan deductible.

Time Insurance Options

Time Insurance provides the options of two types of health insurance under the HSA program.

• One Deductible HSA: As the most popular of the Time insurance plans, the One Deductible HSA provides the customer with a single deductible (one deductible fore the entire family). After this deductible is met, the plan pays 100% of covered expenses up to $3 million per person. Some wellness expenses are covered, too. Time insurance provides this plan as a preferred provider or PPO plan or allows the customer to choose his or her own provider.
• Rightstart HSA: this plan is similar to the One Deductible plan except that there’s a $2000 limit on outpatient prescriptions and there is a per person deductible rather than one for a family. This is also offered as a PPO plan as well as a indemnity (choosing own provider) plan.

Insurance Options

Time Health Insurance provides the customer with the ability to increase lifetime coverage past the $3 million limit. This can be done through an increase in monthly payments to Time Insurance. Also, maternity deductibles can be added to the HSA plans through Time Insurance with a choice of deductible determining the increase in the monthly payments. Time Insurance provides this addition to the plans starting within 270 days of conception and ending with the delivery.

Time Insurance also provides the option of a Dental and Vision Card. Participating eyewear and dental providers give up to 60% discounts on covered services. These discounts cover all family members in the household. Although this service is provided through Time Insurance Company, The Time Insurance Dental and Vision Card is a discount program and not an insurance product. Time Insurance also provides available Life Insurance which can be purchased in $10,000 coverage increments.

Coverage

Coverage is available through Time Insurance in as little as two to three days after application. Time Health Insurance can become effective any time between the day of application up to 45 days later but cannot become effective the 29, 30, or 31 of any month. There is a chance that the notification of approval through Time health insurance does not reach the customer until after the effective date. All claims submitted during such time can be eligible for coverage after the approval date.
