GHC Health Insurance

Founded in 1947, Group Health Cooperative health insurance (GHC health insurance) is a nonprofit health care system governed by consumers. There is an 11-member board of trustees that works with management and medical staff to ensure the organization’s policies and directions put patients’ needs first. The board of trustees is voted into position by other GHC members.

GHC health insurance is based in Seattle and all services provided by GHC health insurance are conducted at one of its facilities. All medical services occur within the GHC network which owns the following organizations:

  • Group Health Center for Health Studies
  • Group Health Options, Inc.
  • KPS Health Plans
  • Group Health Permanente medical group
  • Group Health Community Foudation

Different Health Insurance Plans

GHC health insurance provides a variety of options for health insurance based on needs and the size of the group or employer. These plans include:

  • Group Health Plan – complete group health care for small groups (2-50) or large groups (51+)
  • Options Plan – allows members to see Group Health doctors (doctors within the GHC network) or any doctor worldwide. This plan is available to small groups (2-50) and large groups (51+)
  • Options Select Plan – total Group Health care when combined with an Options or Alliant plan. This plan is available to large groups (51+)
  • Options PPO Plan – includes a nationwide network of preferred providers as well as the doctors in the Group Health network. This plan is available to large groups (51+)
  • Alliant Select Plan – doctors can be chosen from the Group Health network, The Everett Clinic, or the Virginia Mason network. This plan is available to large groups (51+)
  • Individual & Family Plan – individuals choose a deductible and plan that meets their needs.
  • Medicare Advantage – benefits determined by county but include choice of doctor.
  • State Employees (PEBB) Plan – health plans designed for current state employees or retired state employees.
  • Federal Employees (FEHB) Plan – health plan options for most federal employees.
  • Healthy Options/Basic Health Plan – a health plan and health care options for low-income residents of Washington state.

GHC Health insurance covers a wide range of medical services based in GHC owned and operated facilities. These health care services and centers include:

  • The Adolescent Center – for childhood medical and psychological needs
  • Alternative Care – such as acupuncture and massage therapy
  • Behavioral Health Services – for behavioral health and chemical dependency
  • Consulting Nurse Service – 24 hour phone lines for consultations
  • Cosmetic Dermatology Program – to help with physical appearance of the skin

Prescriptions

GHC Health Insurance provides members with access to pharmaceutical and non-drug related health care as well. Prescription drugs purchased through GHC health insurance are available in selected pharmacies as well as through the mail and online. Other health products are also available for purchase through participating GHC programs. Such products include hypoallergenic products and back and joint supports. There are also periodicals and educational programs available through the GHC health insurance services.
